Vet PoliciesWhat you need to know!
When will we initiate a vet visit?
Here at The Playpen Pet Boarding & Grooming Spa the health and safety of your pet is our utmost priority. Although it's rare that we need to send a pet to the vet while in our care, accidents and illnesses can occur. We pride ourselves on being completely transparent with our clients and will communicate with you immediately if something has happened with your pet while in our care. We have staff trained in Pet First Aid who will assess all medical situations first and will then seek further vet attention if necessary.
We will always err on the side of caution when it comes to getting your pet medical attention if we deem it necessary. We realize that not all pets do well in a boarding facility and that stress or deviation from routine can cause physical symptoms to occur. Some of these are quite common and we will take the time to monitor and assess situations on an individual basis.
Even though we require ALL pets to be vaccinated for Rabies, DAPP2 and Bordetella, just as when a child goes to school, there is always the risk of picking up common illnesses such as Bordetella (Cough), Canine Influenza (Flu), Pink Eye and Clostridium (bacteria causing diarrhea). We are extremely vigilant with cleaning protocols to prevent infectious disease but unfortunately some bacteria can be spread through the air or soil which are impossible to disinfect.
The following is a general guideline of common conditions we see in our facility and when we will seek vet attention for these symptoms. We will always defer to our vet of choice in cases where we are unable to contact the owner/emergency contact or for cases where The Playpen is liable.
Due to their outstanding level of service and excellent past results with dogs in our care, our preferred vet of choice is Steeples Veterinary Clinic. We have reviewed our policies with Steeples and had our protocols approved by their vet staff.
